This first post will list all project updates and news for the game. Larger game news will still take place on the blog. However, So that nothing is missed and so that minor progress can be relayed without a full post I will reference here in this first post any important news or updates as well as post changelogs when the time comes. Eventually development will include other individuals for testing purposes but for now this forum post shall help relay relevant information to those interested. Version 0.2 Update (March 2023) • Skill purchases now have a check system so that you may only learn or upgrade if you have the sparks to do so. • Fixed a ui bug Version 0.3 Update (June 2023) • Skill panel bug fix, If no selection of skill, then mouse press changes disabled string text, it shouldnt and now doesn't. • Skill panel bug fix, Afflictions gained were showing altered strings on some occasions and now do not. • Added functional music player with toggle to top ui bar with basic controls and mechanics for play pause, selection of categories and lists for choosing tracks. In preparation for game audio. • Tweaked Atmospheric Fog Overlay Size. • Changed how the App movement bar works so that the mouse stays over the bar when you click and move it. • Fixed: Top ui bar when going fullscreen has unintended incorrect bg. Version 0.4 Update (March 2024) # Lore Additions • 49 descriptions or dialogues improved. # Bugs • Fixed: exe shutting down on pressing f2. # Added Mechanics • New Hotkey Panel, To share hotkey commands, toggled by f3. • Added mouse scrolling to all in-game lists. # Other • Added 7 more tracks to the music player. • Tweaked / Improved Risk Estimate part of UI on possible contacts. • Repositioned music player and its associated elements and sizes to accomodate the f3 hotkey panel button. • Updated twitter logo to the new X rebranding. • Tweaked Move App Button On Fullscreen for UI. • Added functional hotkeys for various in-game elements. • Tweaked the silhouette placeholder character image to look better. • Tweaked scrollbar colors to fit UI. Better quality. • Improved world map. More detail. • Improved local area map. More detail. (View region image mode, View detailed map mode.) • Finalized prototype of unique combat system for this game. • New narrative scene art to represent each region and be used in future main story content. • New narrative scene frame with UI, mechanics, strings for future main story content. • Improved Law Screen / Mechanics (Used to be 1 enactable at a time law per section, now it is 3 per section. ) • Advance building and troop training screens to save, load. And set up some basic values. So production of buildings now shows and gives. And so that troops correlate might correctly. In preparation for more game content. • Be test ready on steam (As in no placeholder files or file install issues or problem from from any copyrights, in third party usages of licences of some minor placeholder art etc.) [PARTIALLY DONE] • A polished and updated UI. [DONE TOO VARIED TO LIST ALL] • A polished Options, Sound, Saving system tied into all the variables so I can begin game balancing as I add game mechanics on top of the interface and begin to craft the game. • Advanced lore in many areas, both in reference, descriptions and refining of overall concepts as they tie together more. • Install ready on non developmemt computers (I've about 40 conflicts on this game that need fixing, embedding or altering in distribution so that users can play game while viewing correct art). [PARTIALLY DONE] • Connection of other game areas such as the diplomacy screen and advisors screen to basic gameplay elements. • Twice as many advisors can now be selected, each with their own names and portraits allowing more selection in that area. • The laws section is also getting an extra layer of complexity and limitation for gameplay elements. and will now have quantity of possible law choices tied to how many advisors you have. Unlocking and increasing available law choices. • The troop training and building sections are getting improved checks for gameplay elements and clarity in the UI itself of current view. • Added a new section "Advisor actions" making extra use of your advisors you can send them on missions across asteria. Version 0.2 Update (December 2022) • Completed the battlefield ui with 80% mechanics and animations. • Local View Now has a ui panel for type of combat, allowing a choice and a new ui for automated or full new combat if you choose the manual option. • Map Control Mode and variables to display and log which kingdoms own what land and allow further gameplay elements are tied in but not polished for gameplay yet. • Enhanced narrative dialogue controls for when that systems used in gameplay. • Added the remaining logic for saving / loading of on continued games and setting of variables on new game in the advisor panel and diplomacy panel. Shields and Expertise are now functional for advisors. And trade agreement and send gift is now functional for diplomacy. As well as a ton of other areas with variables. • Added an alternate ui to the end turn ui to be used when the game is lost, so you may exit, reload to the start of the day or return to the main menu, Not currently in use or seen however. • Newgame Intro Now Uses the enhanced narrative code. Includes placeholder text for now. • Improved checks, info and settings panel that appears over the map on view area actions. • Improved checks and visual indicators on training and troops to indicate a can afford or cannot afford on costs involved. • Improved advisor actions panel, with checks and new ui. • Couple minor bug fixes. • Couple of minor improvements not worth mentioning. Version 0.3 Update (March 2023) =Visual= • Improved checks on advisor actions panel. • Improved checks on diplomacy panel. • Improved checks on advisors panel. • Advisor Action Points Icon added. • Viewed Area Controlled Icon added. • New Resource Icons added to stat panels and on training and building panels where relevant. • Overview UI has been updated for the addition of player personal items. New list, slots and selection with a base set of items to begin. These will eventually give buffs. • Conversation UI has been updated with combat user interface & mechanics for this. However its not fleshed out for use fully. For use when a conflict is between you and someone with which you converse. When no army involved. • Precombat UI now contains a side button section to switch between army settings, and a horse usage before you enter combat. • Updated end of day report to include UI for resources produced from buildings and the costs to run them so you can see what you are lacking or not. =Mechanics= • Kingdom Stats and Population Stats now generate an overall score which displays on the panels. • Advisor Action Points Mechanics are working with placeholder actions they however give no rewards yet. (This will be added in a later update.) • Kingdom Ownership Mechanics have been added showing ownership on the map and eventually allowing for changes of ownership when combat mechanics are finished. • Automated combat is set up with a report which is triggered in the infopanel; you can close after reading results. • Automated combat and manual combat ui have been updated. For reports and transition to combat. • A triggered readable report mechanic has been added for advisor actions, null, null. Which creates an entry in the quest / info panel located in the upper left of the ui. For quest tracking, action reports among other things. Version 0.4 (June 2023) • Updated End of Day Production Icons & String UI placements as well as added a raw production section. Expenditure and income section, population and landmass section. and a new advisor issues section to indicate potential kingdom issues to player if there are any. Including some basic templates that could appear on the list to player. • Altered a couple of buildings names, descriptions and productions for economy update to bring them more in line with the needs of the original concept. • Updated info panel entries and related sections for the economy update and changes made to buildings and goods produced. • Precombat Horse Setting - added a UI slider to setting for horse % usage selection mechanics, As well as making sure it shows in a lower string how many horses will actually be used after the % of the selection has been set. Also fixed the selection of settings and the need for a UI change on button choice selection to change contents of the panel on selection. • Buildings costs UI fully updated to show relevant cost and production values, As well as the relevant icons for each buildings requirements and the icons for its production. Also hides, changes or shows the icons and relevant strings depending on selection and panel viewed. (Still requires balancing for gameplay) • Troops costs UI fully updated to show relevant cost and requirement values, As well as the relevant icons for each of the troop type requirements and the icons for their attack and defense values. Also hides, changes or shows the icons and relevant strings depending on selection and panel viewed. (Still requires balancing for gameplay) • Added blank silhouettes to the laws, building and training sections for when no selections are made and polished up ui clutter. • New smaller scrollbar look for when it uses a smaller scrollbar in some ui areas. • Updated appearance of UI bar under selection of kingdoms in the diplomacy panel. As well as its icons, placement of strings. • Added new tooltip mechanic to show more info for variables, To various parts of the game UI frames on mouse hover over icons. With alternative tooltips for parts near edge of screen. • Tweaked action point icon so it can be detected for tooltips. • Minor tweak to all alt colors to a slightly more appealing on the eyes hex color code. • The precombat panel no advisor UI block has been updated to cover more of the area when its not usable, Hiring an advisor will unlock this panel and access to settings via expertise of your advisor as well. • Added functional music player with toggle to top ui bar with basic controls and mechanics for play pause, selection of categories and lists for choosing tracks. In preparation for game audio. • Added some tracks to the game audio player categories and associated copyrights to game credits. Version 0.5 (September 2023) • Tweaked some pixels in the world map images to remove unwanted blemishes due to a transparency bug. • Added UI backgrounds to variables on end day stats panel so they are visually better seen, Also added grain effect that was missing on ui panel. • Tweaked game over panel to remove some ui components that were showing when not supposed to. • Tweaked grain effect on end day list selection to fit and size correctly • Fixed: grain effect on list for overview equipment selection not showing. • Fixed: missing grain effects on ui elements of overview equipment selection. • Tweaked UI on battlefield screen to include UI Design Elements for the bg ui, And extra Buttons for generals orders. These being the Cavalry Flank - Horse Attack command and the Volley Of Arrows - Archer Attack command. No function in gameplay yet but added and functional for when that comes along. • Fixed: The advisor selections need disabling when the review panel is open or changing them mid review will break game mechanics. • Advisor hire selection ui mechanics further updated to indicate to player that the selection is already hired if they indeed are. Version 0.6 (March 2024) # Lore Additions • 20 infopanel descriptions improved. • 8 Advisor Position Introduction Hire descriptions. • 3 Advisor action introduction descriptions covering, education, guards and conversations. • 5 Diplomacy action introduction descriptions covering, war, trade, peace, gifts and conversations. • 1 View Area introduction description for scouting. # Fixed Bugs • Fixed: Music player scrollbar ui wasnt hiding on player close • Fixed: Incorrect position of ui string for horse usage on combat choice • Fixed: String font size of player song titles being too long for its location. • Fixed: Missing Tooltip on Iron Icon (Building Review). • Fixed: Missing Tooltip on Gold Icon (Building/Training Review). • Fixed: Font size in overview panel for many strings being wrong. • Fixed: All custom lists with scrolling sometimes cutting off items if too many due to scroll. • Fixed: End Turn/End of Day variable spacing misalignments. • Fixed: Scrollbars now hide correctly when there are no further items in the list beyond what can be seen to fill the list. • Fixed: Missing scroll bg on list of view area. • Fixed: Incorrectly sized scrollbar bg on the advisor actions list. • Fixed: Sound presses crossing through frames for things clicked but not visible. • Fixed: Issues with transparancy while adding thadni logos were missed, i've redone them to be more accurate where used. • Fixed: Conflicts with music player among frame code due to disabling / enabling of code as to not affect the ui selections or mechanics while player is open. • Fixed: Player can switch between action tabs when on review choice in advisors and diplomacy UI panels breaking some mechanics. • Fixed: Missing padlock icons when on review of some advisor hires. • Fixed: When a troop is selected for retreat and roll succeeds, if you click another troop. It will send that one to retreat instead, if done so before the roll succeeds. • Fixed: Troop army types not changing appearance due to a conflict in logic. • Fixed: Stone and metal mines having wrong selection image. • Fixed: Advisors Grain filter is gone from portraits after viewing diplomacy screen. • Fixed: training yard and buildings can be clicked for selection while review mode is on. • Fixed: When an army is selected and moved it highlights the selection of itself fine, and the enemy is highlighted! But when you select another army the enemy army from the combat initation is still highlighted. • Fixed: Wrong image on disabled versions of buttons on the view area combat tab. • Fixed: Enemy army selection is missed on some pixels when mouseclicked due to transparancy issue. • Fixed: Army strings vanish when viewing third tab panel in view area after a conversation in the 4th tab. • Fixed: Map location selection possible when review panel is open on view area screen and breaking some ui choices. • Fixed: Several raw materials not saving values or showing on end day if buildings acquired/owned. • Fixed: Claims working and scouting working but theres a conflict on the string switch, showing incorrect information for the selected tab. • Fixed: Advisor positions changing if review panel is open and clicked where selections are. • Fixed: Infopanel not closing with button if switched between panels before returning to game frame. • Fixed: a string color is white when no advisor in position and should be greyed out. • Fixed: Diplomacy text strings conflicting based on choices selected, showing wrong string text. • Fixed: Overview screen when selection taxation then artifacts, artifacts isnt hiding the ui when shifting to other panels. • Fixed: lutician land is not updating when scouted. • Fixed: kingdom locations you owned could be attacked, this has been fixed by disabling the attack tab when the land is yours. • Fixed: When you make a claim then go back to scouting screen the flag on the ui is the wrong one. • Fixed: Bug on f3 key pressed panel open that hides the music player button. • Fixed: On the advisor selection panel on the edges of every selection, Wrong selection is set on overlapped click and it reverts to regent instead of the one it should. • Fixed: Warfare Logs not showing properly, same issue lies in the logs in the personal battles. • Fixed: tooltip conflicts due to new additions. • Fixed: send gold gift balance check not working. • Fixed: Blurry diplomacy opinion of us icons. • Fixed: Diplomacy selections and strings can be selected while review panel is open. • Fixed: Music player scrollbar not working. • Fixed: Trade agreement, On 2nd panel to end agreement no strings are showing where they should. • Fixed: Tooltips dissapearing when mouse pressed (fixed by enhancing tooltips, they dont flicker now either.) • Fixed: Tooltips showing on view area if review panel is open and in other places. • Fixed: Wrong UI Piece if on diplomacy and suing for peace. • Fixed: missing custom font on overview troop selection ALL string. • Fixed: 2 ui pieces missing grain effect in combat screen. # Added Mechanics • Added 2 new locations on local maps: Grand Pastures and Glacial Pass. • Locations can now be scouted. • Locations now have mechanics for player claims, and ai kingdoms secondary and tertiary claims. • Custom value entry box used for troop and building requisitions or release and demolishing updated so that the calculation updates whenever you change the quantity in the value entry box. • Training & Building pre-review right panel improved check, Demolish/Release button will toggle its visibility based on whether or not you have any of that unit or building owned. • Added an extra toggle button to stat panels so views can differentiate between stock levels and produced goods in kingdom. • Expanded music player dropdown to add skip buttons and a button to skip between playing next song in list or a random one or a loop of the current one. • Added 2h system for weapons that require 2 hands, any item in a shield slot willl be de-equipped when you equip such a weapon. Selections take all this into account. • If selected equipment is already equipped it will now show you on the equip button text and in the change of the button appearance. • Added mouse scrolling to all in-game lists. • Added WASD Controls to army movement. • The return button is now disabled while review panels are open. To direct player towards making a choice and to limit potential bugs. • Diplomacy Review Left Panel now has extra ui, icon and relays the selected kingdoms opinion of you and has been rethemed to match game appearance. • Advisor Review Left Panel now has extra ui, icon and relays the selected advisor positions status to you, Both with no hire and with. And has also been rethemed to match game appearance. • Building & Troop Review Left Panels now have extra ui, icon and relays information for required variables And has also been rethemed to match game appearance. • View Area third tab, Location attacking, Your Army section now displays a calculation of current player might based on troops trained and enemy might calculation specific to kingdom owning the location. • Advisor Actions and view area review left panels now have extra ui, icons and relay relevant information for the section. • 1st and 2nd and third tab of view area have close report tweak for content after the initial action in those sections. • Conversation Tab With its review Panel Redone for a new list design and mechanics. • Added hotkey Button and a hotkey to open it (F3) and frame to show hotkey controls for other gameplay. • Advisors Review Panel now has Name, Expertise and Guard panels, icons, strings, and shows relevant data. • A gold gift choice in diplomacy is now custom value entry box giving players a choice of how much gold they wish to send, with 4 tiers of different opinion rewards for amounts. • Added functional hotkeys for various in-game elements. • Conversation panels have updated User Interface for personal combat. To include equipment, attack roll timers, attack names, opponent info log entries of action, personal stances and cover art panels to alter unfinished parts of the ui for future improvements. • Added weapons images for equipped weapon possibles to personal combat for both the player and the enemy opponent. • Artifacts in overview now have buff icons with ui and tooltip mechanics for when finding artifacts yields gameplay rewards. • Opinion of us icon on top bar and on bar under kingdom selection updated and now switches icons to better represent allegiance to you in color and design when you select a kingdom. • Diplomacy section now has a history log for gold sent to any faction shown before you open the review panel. • Troop training now takes away population and gives it back it you of you untrain them. • Building requisitions now take away available land and gives it back if you demolish them. • Stock panel revamped into production panel with settings to alter production efficiency of owned building groups, Includes introduction of a production variable. • Craftsmen now produce production power towards products created each turn. • Production buildings now have a cost in terms of production power needed to run at 100%. • For each location owned, You gain new population and new landmass every day now. • Might calculations now exist on overview panel troop selections. • Landmass calculations added to end day strings. • Used landmass / Free landmass / Free population / Used population calculations added to overview strings. • Manual Combat Troops now enter the scene from the sides scaled down slightly and increase in size as they enter their positions to set the scene for the first combat moves. • Manual Combat Troops are now limited by moves allowed before enemy turn. # Other • Added 19 more tracks to the music player • Repositioned Taxation button icon in overview panel visual so it fits visually better in respect to other buttons. • Improved Music Player selection functionality, its smoother now. • Renamed Specials Section of overview to Artifacts. • Renamed Tax Section of overview to Taxation. • Renamed Population Stats To Citizenry Stats On lower left section of ui. • Renamed stat panels for goods for ui elements spacing. • Training and Building review panel, right hand section now have icons next to each resources cost/returns. • Improved equipment background appearance and item selection and appearance on equipped items slots for better visibility of item images. • Improved advisor actions user interface design. • Updated 6 test equipment items, Added new equipment. 4 cloak slot items , 5 banner slot items, 5 legs slot items, 5 helm slot items and 5 chest slot items, 28 rhand slot items, 1 lhand slot items complete with images. • Added 2 combat log entries during battles for using special combat buttons. • Added UI Elements to their place for future army effects buffs or debuffs on the battlefield screen. • Added buttons to retreat section of battlefield for a mass retreat & a surrender option should you not want to just pull a single unit from the field. (Currently just the UI and the mechanics for being pressed). • Due to some game tweaks to the design builders have been replaced with peasants. • Tweaked UI underneath diplomacy kingdom selection to be more aesthetic. • Limited list selection appearance on 1st entry on advisor actions and when position is vacant and the list empty. • View area subcategory 1, 2, 3 and 4 now have a review panel. • Diplomacy, Advisor, And View area review panel titles now change string text according to subcategory selected with some extra reactiveness on some selections checking more to provide names or locations. • View area 4th tab, now has a enter the city UI piece, before the possible contact list appears if its the capital. And a Search the area UI piece for non capital outskirt locations. • Added upper right UI when viewing locations to include Locale location count that you control. and the same with forts in each region. Complete with icons. Will be used in future gameplay. • Updated declare war icons of diplomacy to a better design. • Updated twitter logo to the new X rebranding. • View Area Map now has additional tooltips on buttons and icon hovering. • Improved Infopanel and Questpanel Topbar Icons. • Kingdom lay claims button has been disabled if you own any of the land. • Map location scouted string now updates based on % of selected location. • Advisor selection of advisors, now has a disabled button variant. For UI appearance. And to make it clearer when the selection buttons can be used. • Changed the advisor actions (Assign guard and educate advisor) panel so that they stay open on confirm so you can see the upgrade strings change, Also introduces a close panel button. • Diplomacy kingdom selection visuals updated to be clearer, and more defined. with new ui art too. • Added wood panel UI header element to manual combat frame. • On scouting, the main variables for each location when it surpasses 100 keeps stacking, it now resets to 100 and doesnt stack. • Scouting percentages now update correctly on conversation review panels to go alongside contacts found. • Tweaked capital city selection icon to a size that matches other icons, it fits better with the map appearance. • World Map & Local Map Icons now have a glow effect for current selection. • Tweaked scrollbar colors. • Added cover art panels on the left and right kingdom and item stats while on the conversation panel. With an alternate for combat mode. • Added UI spacers on troops & tax panel of overview. • Overview fonts adjusted in sizes to bring together the ui more. • Overview buildings and troops panel uis revamped to accomodate new ui items.
